To celebrate 25 years of queerness, kink, and quality gear, we sat down with the team behind Homoware to talk about their journey, the evolution of Copenhagen’s fetish scene, and what the future holds.
From Tupperware to Homoware: The Beginning
What inspired you to open a fetish store in Copenhagen 25 years ago?
Michael: “We actually started as a webshop, making us one of Denmark’s oldest still-running online stores. But we craved more personal interaction with customers—so, nine years ago, in collaboration with Mister B, we opened a physical store. Two years later, we transformed into a full-fledged Mister B Concept Store.”
And the name?
Michael: Laughs “It’s a spin on Tupperware! Back then, many toys were made of cheap PVC—not the premium materials we have now, like Topped Toys or Hankey’s Toys. So ‘Homoware’ felt like the perfect fit!”
What was the Copenhagen fetish scene like back then?
Michael: “There wasn’t much, apart from our legendary Fetish Club SLM Copenhagen. The city is smaller than Amsterdam, so we weren’t sure if a local fetish shop would work. But we took the risk—and with time, we helped grow the scene, even reaching kinksters in southern Sweden.”
Then vs. Now: 25 Years of Evolution
How has Homoware changed over the years?
Michael: “Originally, we were a place for gay porn and novelty items. Over time, we phased out porn and focused on high-end fetish gear. Now, we stock only quality brands—especially Mister B—so we can provide top-tier gear and expert advice.”
Michael: “Another big shift? Straight customers! More and more straight men and couples have discovered the joys of prostate play. Kink is less taboo now, and people are more open to exploring.”
What kinks are trending?
Ronnie: “Puppy play has exploded! We’ve also seen a rise in fetish sportswear. Plus, we’ve introduced many customers to E-Stim—some come in for a simple dildo and leave with a setup that would make an electrician blush!”
Biggest challenge running a fetish shop for 25 years?
Michael: “Keeping up with trends! When we started, our main sellers were DVDs, poppers, and rainbow merch. Now? DVDs are dead, poppers are illegal in Denmark, and rainbow merch is everywhere. Listening to our customers and living the fetish lifestyle ourselves keeps us ahead.”

Frede: “The customer interactions! When someone comes back saying, ‘Your advice changed my sex life!’, it’s amazing. One of my favourite moments? Helping a young trans guy try on his first binder. Seeing his face light up in the mirror was unforgettable.”

Michael: “More workshops, more safe spaces, and a big online store overhaul! We want it to be more educational and user-friendly.”
